In traditional Chinese families, the elderly are often the most important emotional bond, playing an irreplaceable role in family gatherings, separations, and the occurrences of major and minor events. The younger generation often derives life insights, experiences in dealing with matters, attitudes towards life, and emotional solace from their elders. As time passes, from one generation to the next, hair turns from black to white, and this emotional pattern continues to be passed down.
We based the design on the concept of "bond" and created a softly bordered, earth-covered building that slowly rises from the ground. With this design, we aimed to minimize the environmental impact of the building, allowing it to blend fully with nature. Furthermore, by varying elevations, we aimed to provide people with different perspectives to fully experience the beauty of nature, harmoniously connecting the building with the environment. The symbolic use of the "bond" interprets the indispensable role of the elderly in the family and showcases the cultural attribute of the Chinese family, where the elderly hold a significant place, to the world.
