Shanghai Time - Zunyi Shanghai Road Garden City Complex and Phoenix Mountain North Plaza Project

An early architectural proposal project by us, the site is located on the north side of Phoenix Mountain National Forest Park in the central area of Zunyi, with two plots designated for park and commercial use. It serves as the northern gateway for residents near Shanghai Road to enter the forest park. This area not only boasts natural scenery but also holds precious memories of early Shanghai residents who settled in Zunyi to support the construction of the Third Front. With a 50-meter elevation difference, addressing high plot ratios without compromising the urban and natural environments, organizing multifunctional flow lines, and continuing the urban context are essential considerations for projects in the core urban areas. Firstly, we employed the traditional mountain architecture approach of gradually tiered terraces to form multiple mountain park paths at different elevations connecting to various commercial floors. We also introduced small-scale outdoor skywalks to evoke memories of old Shanghai roads, integrating nature, culture, and modern spaces organically. Secondly, to address the high-volume requirements that should have led to the appearance of two hundred-meter towers, the team effectively resolved the issue of obstructed views of Phoenix Mountain through a vertical and horizontal layout, forming a rational division between dynamic and static zones with offices along the streets and hotels nestled in the woods. Finally, by leveraging the architectural symbols of the Third Front construction and the expression of modern commercial architecture, we effectively integrated offices, hotels, commercial complexes, parks, and natural mountains into a modern commercial complex with regional characteristics through form extraction and reconstruction.
